Re: Synthesis - The Basics & Overview
Hallo hallo there!!! Just finished watching this video and all I can say is that it's a perfect start to your synthesis course vids. Well done! Most things I expected to see here were there! Good explanation of the audio path basics and great time spent on modulation sources and destinations. However there were some things I noted that IMO should be reconsidered before the actual release. So here they are:
-First of all and most important, don't know if others have noticed or it's just me, but the balance between your voice volume and sound examples needs fixing. There were noumerous times I had to adjust the volume knob during this video, and I almost got a heart attack when you first demonstrated the saw wave!!!
-I think the General Points screen should be moved to the start of the video.
-When you first explain modulation on the Zebra synth I think a zoom in would better serve the purpose there. To be more precise I'm talking about 10:02 min.! I know that you also want the Blue Cat plugin to show the wave, but I think a bit more zooming in would have been better.
Well that's it for now, going on to watch your next video...

@ 1:30: LOVE IT!
@ 1:45, bubble, "Subtractive Synthesis"
Excellent explanations!
@ 4:15, bubble a link to the Blue Cat Oscilloscope: http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Bundle_FreewarePack/
Actually, bluecat isn't free, but Bram's s(M)exoscope is @ http://bram.smartelectronix.com/plugins.php?id=4
@ 8:18, the oscilloscope isn't showing up on the screen, eh...
I'm @ 8:48 and about to pass out. The next section (Modulation) has begun. I'll finish reviewing the rest of this video tomorrow, eh...

Re: Synthesis - The Basics & Overview
@ 9:28: big time drop in volume...
@ 11:30 - WAY TOOOO CONFUSING... Especially if the person doesn't know what an LFO is...
@ 14:44 - I have a feeling this is important??? perhaps bubble, "Important Information" or something...
@ 15:15, as you explain modulation controller, it would be nice to hear the sample, as you did with the Modulation Source just before.
@ 15:30... OOOOOH, I see that you're about to do this, eh... my bad.... by 16:25 - LOVED THE EXAMPLE!
@ 16:30-17: Excellent use of bubbles...
@ 20:46: vuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvuvu
@ 24:45: I'm using FLSTUDIO! &
@ 25:00 I'd love for you to try Sylenth1. Available @ http://www.lennardigital.com
@ 25:30 onwards. Excellent explanations (repeated throughout your course, as has become obvious to me, by now)...
Perhaps you wanna' bubble, :"Different types of synths" and bubble the respective type when you discuss the different examples, for example, at Zebra2, you could bubble, "Wireless Modular Synth", and @ 27:30 for Reaktor, "Wired Modular Synth", etc...
@ 29:10 onwards; Very important explanation...
@ 39:48... the video ends mid-sentence, eh: "Thanks for wa...."
It'll be great to get a discount on the BlueCat stuff... Thanks!

Re: Synthesis - The Basics & Overview
A very nice introduction to synthesis. i could really have used this a year or so ago haha
i have come to know alot of this but as i said this would have been exactly what i was after when i was a complete novice.
some small things :
as above some volume issues scattered throughout i was turning up and down a few times. its just your voice though, the synth volume is fine.
- the gradients in the transition screens and the other text screens is showing up all weird on my monitor, like 8 bit gradient sections ? it may be my VLC player but if not then maybe something a little more one color... haha such a small pissy thing though but better presentation i guess
it was also noticeable on the zoom in and outs where it went all 8bit style huge pixelation etc.
example ... user considerations... it starts off as yellow then goes to a pale bright colour ??
- you have modulation transition text etc. but no filter transition text?
- right at the end it cuts off .." thanks for wa".... (again pissy)
overall if i had watched this when i started this venture it would have saved months of scrambling for information and reading various explanations of things. its all in one place with visual representation . AWESOME !!
i can imagine everyone starting out praising this video for its information. i know i would have !
well done

Re: Synthesis - The Basics & Overview
Thanks for the feedback dood.
Yup it seems there is a weird audio thing going on, namely me moving my head to far from the mic, so i have bought pro headset to deal with this problem.
I am not sure what the problem is with the video your end, no one else has reported video issues which is strange.
thanks
Mark
