Reaktor Basic Synth Empty Re: Reaktor Basic Synth

Post  SRigo Tue Nov 17, 2009 3:54 am

I recently purchased Komplete 5 and i am stoked that this is in here.

I am familar with most of the programs in Komplete 5.
However Reaktor 5 i didnt even bother with. I did open Reaktor 5 when i got Komplete 5 but i jumped in and saw the layouts and connections and almost instantly said "nope thats too hard for now, il just stick with absynth and the virus."
This video was so simple. Having never used it before, i went from knowing shit all, to being able to build a synth. I know i will be using this synth alot in the future, as its a great way to keep learning and keeping the sounds fresh.

Im sure that it gets alot heavier than the stuff shown but i was able to follow this to the money and came out of eager enough to use it alot more.
Again no real issues with the video, audio was fine, cuts were not a problem and the zooms were great. There is not really any need for graphics that i saw.

I loved this video, this was a pure example of a "tutorial" as i had no knowledge of this synth and within 20 minutes i was rockin.

Top work !

Cheers

Edit
Did you open Reaktor 5 as a stand alone program, outside of Cubase to build your synth? If so maybe state to open Reaktor 5 as a stand alone, i only noticed because of the Toolbar , File, Edit Etc., and that view wasnt available in Cubase

Post  APsyviz Tue Nov 17, 2009 8:43 am

Well after viewing the video "Reaktor Basic Synth" i was impressed as to how easy it can be to make a synth using reaktor. I never knew that you could build your own synths with reaktor. I can say that the video is very well explained and opens many doors. I also enjoyed the explanation in the beginning about the different types of synths, The modular and the wireless modular synths i think those tips are very helpful in understanding more about the creation of synths.. Unfortunately i was unable to get any sound out of reaktor as standalone, for some reason when i play on my keyboard i get no sound but reaktor does pick up a midi signal so i am curios as to what the problem might be...I was able to make the basic synth via cubase and only found one problem , that's when you want to select a OSC level and rename it accordingly and view the selected item i was unable to minimize the window so you could see the item selected..

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your feedback, i will definitely take note of the fact the enjoyed the explanation on the difference between modular, wired modular and fixed architecture synths.

I think the problem may be that you don't have the audio outputs set up in Reaktor for it to play in Standalone mode.

In Reaktor in Standalone mode do the following:

Goto System>Audio+Midi Settings
Select the sound card tab and make sure the appropriate settings for your card are there.
Check the routing also to make sure your cards ins/outs are listed
Also check the midi routing (although it sounds like you have the midi ok)

Let me know if you still have problems,

Having not used Reaktor since version 3, this first video brought some good old memories back to me. IMO Reaktor is among the greatest software ever made.So powerfull and yet so complicated! So far, I've been browsing ensembles from other users, but now it's time to take it from the start. This first video was easy to follow and as far as it concerns technical details, perfect. Waiting for next one...

Reaktor Basic Synth Empty Got it

Post  APsyviz Tue Nov 17, 2009 12:04 pm

Hi Mark

I managed to get the sound configuration right using reaktor as a standalone app.. the problem was the midi input on the instrument. so i changed its value from 1 to Omni and now my midi keyboard is working.. Thanks for your tips on how to check the audio card settings and reminding me to check the input settings.

Thanks Anthony

Once again right to the point.

One thing, mention that to hear the filter envelope you need to apply the mod amount. It can cause confusion if you turn knobs and hear no change in sound.

Hi Matt,

When applying the filter envelope amount you don't necessary hear anything and the filter envelope setting may still need to be adjusted, however you still need
to have the filter envelope modulation amount turned up to make sure that the envelope effects the destination signal.

However i will take note and make it easier to understand Smile

thanks for the feedback,

Hey again. Well, first beofre I forget, Mark did say very clear that you should turn the modulation amount, in the zebra video i think.
Second, i'll repeat what i've said in the zebra post: it's a tic tac clock. Short, concise. Very easy to follow.
Very pre-prepared, like mark's going into something he "rehearsed" and he's not improvising which is very important. A lot of teacher's i went regarding electronic music, they were too chaotic, which made me forget everything (my mind is extremely chaotic too so make the math). Here there's a line to follow.
The thing i've seen is a little how should i say it, when i see the line of the nuendo (the one that marks the part reproducing) i hear music a beat before, like a problem with latency. But it may be mi pc which is a little old (the one i have with internet connection) and has problems reproducing videos. I'll check it with my other pc but anyway if you can check it out it would be nice too. I have nothing to say specifically about the info in here, or other things about. Oh, yeah. I here a little saturation in the pad, but i think this is the post of the first reaktor video :S, sorry. Anyway, it shouldn't be important for what we are learning is how to synthesis, and what knobs we should move, not a perfect mix, or that kind of things.
So i don't know what to say anymore about this row of videos but that they are very tight, and clear and i give my OK.
Peace,
Mau.

Just finished watching this Video had a few troubles to begin with as when i went to install a 1in1 out instrument i found out that i didnt have this option so i had to uninstall my (ahem) copy and install the demo from the site.
Once i got through the those teething problems. I was able to follow the tutorial fine except for having to stop watching the video halfway through and then rehaving to create it all from scratch when my timed 30mins ran out Sad possibly something to bear in mind for the users that dont have reaktor.
Still i felt that the audio and visual quality was top notch, i think i noticed a couple of cuts at the start of the video but nothing drastic enough to hinder the learning.
I have to say like most modular synths have put me off in the past for their complexity but i feel confident & eager now to delve deeper in to them which at the end of the day is what the purpose of this course is all about.

HI Guys,

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.

Yes i understand the time out demo's can be a problem however there is no other way than to actually buy the software, which i wouldn't advice now as i am waiting for the (hopefully) money off vouchers from NI. The ones for Zebra2 have all ready been confirmed and i am waiting feedback from Rob Papen also. None of these vouchers will, however, be available until the actual course is complete so i am afraid its something you have to cope with.

thanks again,

Mark

I have been searching ebay for old versions of Kontakt, reaktor or Komplete as the upgrades are only 199euro if you previously had kontakt or reaktor and 299 if you previously owned komplete.

But should i not find one then i look forward to the discount vouchers if they agree Smile

Hi,

I have a copy of Reaktor 4 i would be happy to sell for £100.

That still saves you about 160 Euros when you upgrade to Reaktor 5 with the Reaktor 4 CD.

Let me know if yuo or anyone else is interested.

Hey Mark not sure if you got my PM but im definately interested in taking reaktor 4 off your hands Smile

Been having some serious problems with my pc this weekend. My C:drive has somehow marked as dirty then whenever chkdsk runs on boot it deletes and replaces a load of index file 9 which then once complete leaves my pc screwed (It just boots to a black screen with a mouse cursor) so i keep having to reinstall my image with norton ghost. I bought a new hdd thinking that would sove the problem but alas nada so the problem must be with the image. Its driving me potty. As i have to be on the ball every time the pc boots up to stop chkdsk from running.

The Reaktor setup video was a real joy to watch and follow. It has helped me to understand many things and I now look forward to exploring this on my own.

I definitely enjoyed the reaktor videos more than the zebra videos. Perhaps it's now due to increased familiarity with the concepts, since I dealt with Reaktor second. I believe I would like to have a text document on the side with an outline describing what we are going to view\do in the video, what knobs we're playing with, and its intended effect. Additionally, somehow, i wasn't able to get that deep of a bass that was played in the video. Perhaps, it is because you were playing on lower octaves on your keyboard???

Thank you for this work.
